Hello Fellow Recreation Professionals!
Any town Rec Depts that plan, organize, and facilitate their community parades out there...do you require parade participants (walking, riding, etc) in the parade to sign anything prior, or, do you have someone inspect floats and make sure everyone is within the guidelines prior to the start?
Our department is responsible for the 4th of July festivities which includes a parade. We require any motorize vehicle to fill out an application along with compliance of having at least an 18 inch rail or buffer all around the float to ensure no one can or will fall from the float. We do have staff check each float and we haven't had an issue.
Sometimes we have people/organizations show up without signing up so we ask them to sign the form at the parade site. We even have people sign up who want to have an old car in the parade as well.
Hope this information is helpful.
