Overnight Trips for Teens

I am wondering if any Rec Departments are currently are offering overnight field trips for teens?

We've had some interest from the Community to do outdoor adventure type programming such as backpacking trips;  white water rafting, etc. Curious if anyone is running those types of programs currently.

    Thanks

    Matt,

Our teen center does two overnights a year.  Our Teen Coordinator has a camp out at our rec facility with tents on the field, campfire, smores the whole camping experience without getting to far from home.

The other event is our midnight madness event where we take the teens out all night doing such activities as, indoor swimming, bowling, Red Claws Game NBA G league and then we come back to our rec and they sleep over in the gym.  Our staff makes them all breakfast and they go home about 7:30 a.m.

    Matt,

We offer a variety of trips.  Last year we offered a 3 day mountain biking trip to the Kingdom trail in Burke VT.  We have also done white water rafting trips and plan to offer backpacking trips in 2019.

    Craig & John

Did either of your Town's have any concerns about risk and liability with those trips?

In 2018 our teen group hiked Mt. Washington and stayed overnight at the hut up there. On another trip they went whitewater rafting and stayed 2 nights there. They also do many day hikes, rock climbing days and river floats. Next year I plan to further my own education in risk management by taking the NOLS risk management course as we plan to grow our hiking trips & programs among teens and adults. Info on that course is here https://www.nols.edu/en/about/risk-services/training-courses/
