Keynote Address

9:00–10:00 Presence, Play & Possibility: A Boundary Approach to Building Trust and Connection with Youth Build trust, beat burnout, and avoid adult-youth relational traps. This keynote will introduce research-backed strategies to meet universal youth needs and provide the best protective factor we can offer young people: healthy connections with accessible, boundaries, and caring trusted adults.

10:00–10:15 Break

10:15–11:00 Water Safety & Summer Camp Risk Management

This session will focus on water safety and discuss the added risk field trips to beaches and water parks pose to campers and staff. Participants will learn ways to reduce that risk and will leave with my top 10 water safety tips.

11:15–12:00 Beyond “Kumbaya” – The Importance of Camp Songs to the Rec Camp Experience Incorporating camp songs and games with music, music and movement can make the camp experience even better and more memorable for campers. Transition times, meal and snack times, field trips (and especially when the bus is late), down time, overnights etc. are enhanced through silly camp songs, games, and movement. And YOU don’t have to be a great (or even good) singer to teach songs and get campers to sing-along. This session will review the why, where, when, and how of incorporating singing and music into the Rec Camp setting.

Kids WILL Do Dumb Stuff, But YOU Can’t!

Are you ready for summer as a counselor? Join this session to learn some basic safety, operational and procedural dos, and don’ts as you get ready for summer! This session will be a facilitated discussion on what it means to be a positive leader and how to have an impact on your campers. Summer camps and programs have a lot of risk in them. We will also walk the path of identifying areas of risk in your camps and programs. Together we will learn what it means to be a leader who is present in their position and always looking to mitigate risk.

Join us for a fun and interactive games session with some old favorites and some new twists!

12:45–2:15 Camp Challenges

Your staff will need to come together and work as a unit, to compete against all the other Recreation Departments. Creative thinking and teamwork will be put to the test to complete the gauntlet of Team Building activities. Departments should come prepared to show off their camp spirit, points will be awarded for several unique challenges. Make sure to bring: a change of clothes, a towel, a garden gnome, noise maker, face paint, costumes, wigs, wacky hats, flags/banners, and anything else that your camp might use for theme weeks!

2:15–2:45 Closing remarks, Awards, Raffle, and Ice Cream!

Time to relax, visit and enjoy a mountainous bowl of ice cream with all the toppings you can fit! Win great door prizes to take back and use at camp☺
